E15 - Assisted Living Alaska: Building on the Final Frontier
Building a ground-up assisted living facility in Anchorage, Alaska, has many challenges, the least of which is environment. Nursing homes were built for early settlers and Alaska natives in the 1970s, but since then few large senior living facilities have been built. This case study is a new project type for the State Health Department, the Municipality of Anchorage, the local construction industry, and even the local banking and finance industry. This presentation explores how working with these groups was ultimately an education in the role assisted living fills between skilled nursing and living at home.
