E17 - It's Not just for Millennials: Co-living Options for Older Adults
While co-living (contemporary residence with shared living spaces) is typically associated with urban millennials, new and revived co-living residential models also appeal to many older adults. Co-living is “the middle landscape” between conventional retirement communities on the one hand and aging in place on the other (in what may become increasingly isolated and inaccessible homes and neighborhoods). In this session, you will learn about four types of co-living—home sharing, co-living complexes, senior and multigenerational cohousing, and accessory dwelling units/tiny houses—and hear about the appeal, drawbacks, benefits, and potential market of each. Case studies throughout the country will be profiled and designs highlighted.
