E40 - The Application of Smart Homes for Elderly Care within Healing Environments

This presentation showcases research that defines the key aspects of smart homes for elderly care, healing spaces, and healthy living withink the scale of community healthcare. It explores how smart homes, with special characteristics, are developed to impact healing environments and community healthcare. Additionally, a developed multifamily prototype-housing unit will be described, which demonstrates best practices in aging-in-place strategies with smart technologies such as sensors to collect information such as human vital signs, physical activity, and environmental factors. Presenters will show how utilizing prefabricated construction to bring plug-and-play technology infrastructure for seniors can lead to healthy and happy living for their caregivers and families, too.
