E42 - The Compelling Case for Inclusive Design in Senior Communities
This presentation will examine the principles of universal design and how they create spaces that equally address the needs of all user groups, including residents, their families, and staff, and support self-directed care. Presenters will demonstrate how inclusive design is intuitive to use and improves quality of life. The seven principles of universal design will also be referenced and examined. Examples of effective inclusive design will be shared from a number of settings, with concepts discussed for their relevance in senior environments, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled care. The benefits to the stakeholders will be shared, along with associated cost implications.
