Description

E44 - Shared Sites: Design for Intergenerational Aging

This session presents the design research and work of a graduate-level architecture studio that examined the distinct spatial, social, and sensory needs of older adults and younger children in order to consider how architectural design can support active aging and intergenerational connection. The studio’s unique collaboration with other organizations provided a lens to incorporate cross-disciplinary research with design processes. Designers, educators, and providers can benefit from this session, which will share the research process and summarize design concepts, diagrams, and design proposals, highlighting the potential for intergenerational design to have a significant, positive impact on the globally aging population.
