E47 - Environments for Aging in Wellness Tourism: Designing the Healthy Hotel Room

As older adults grow as tourist market segment, this session models the health-promoting hotel room as an environment for healthy aging. It incorporates health-boosting technologies and ambient design elements and creates optimal healing environments to improve health, disease awareness, and lifestyle during and after a stay. The model embraces the relationship between the physical environment, human responses, and consequent healthcare outcomes with evidence-based design decisions about the built environment based on credible research, achieving the best possible outcomes for the traveler.
