The Designing Dementia Capable Environments course offers a two-fold look at memory care design. The first part of the course will introduce you to the stages of dementia and common aging changes for a better understanding of the population for which you are designing. This enables you to create environmental supports that maximize the person’s remaining abilities.
The second part of the course is applying what you learned in a design lab. You’ll be given an elder profile to design for, using all of the principles learned earlier in the day. These principles align with the SAGE Principles Related to Gerontological Environments.
